The National Sleep Foundation of the United States says that individual lifestyles play a crucial role in determining the need for sleep and provides general recommendations according to age groups.

Not having a routine life, consuming stimulant drinks such as alcohol, coffee, energy drinks, alarm of the clocks and daylight can affect the daily cycle, also known as biological clock.

How many hours of sleep do you need for a healthy life? Here is the answer from the US National Sleep Foundation:

Newborns (0-3 months): Ideally, a newborn baby will sleep 14 to 17 hours per day, but 11 to 13 hours may be sufficient. Newborns are advised not to sleep more than 19 hours.

Babies (4-11 months): The recommended time is 12-15 hours. Sleeping at least 10 hours may also be enough. Babies should never sleep for more than 18 hours.

Toddlers (1-2 years): Children in this age group are advised to sleep for 11-14 hours, but the accepted range is 9-16 hours.

Preschool period (3-5 years): Experts recommend a 10-13 hour interval for this group. Sleeping less than 8 hours and sleeping more than 14 hours is not appropriate.

School term (6-13 years): The Sleep Foundation recommends 9 to 11 hours of sleep. Sleep less than 7 hours or more than 12 hours is not considered healthy.

Adolescence (14-17 years): Recommended sleep time 8 to 10 hours. The Sleep Foundation believes it should not be more than 11 hours and less than 7 hours.

Young adults (18-25 years): This age group is recommended for 7-9 hours of sleep and sleep time should not be less than 6 hours, not more than 11 hours.

Adults (24-64 years): This age group is recommended the same sleep time as young adults; 7-9 hours.

Advanced age group (65 years and older): Healthy sleep time is 7-8 hours per day, but it is recommended that this period should not be less than 5 hours and not exceed 9 hours.

Experts also recommend the improvement of sleep quality:

* Stay connected to your sleep patterns including weekends

* Develop a relaxing ritual during sleep time

* Exercise every day

* Maintain ideal room temperature, volume and light in the bedroom

* Avoid 'hidden sleep abductors' such as alcohol and caffeine

* Turn off electronic devices before going to bed
