Earwax Removal
Earwax is an oily, antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral protective secretory produced from the external ear canal. Normally, our ears have a self-cleaning mechanism. The introduction of a cotton swab, paper towel, napkin, and the like, which absorbs the aqueous portion of the dirt into the outer ear canal disrupts this natural cleaning mechanism. Earwax that cannot be discarded or regularly pushed inwards can become trapped in the outer ear path, causing clogging (trapped earwax, implanted bladder, jammed plug).
For earwax cleaning (in patients with a tympanic membrane and no ear infection), keep warm water in the bath, then lean the head on both sides of the napkin or towel to drain water from the external ear canal and then remove moisture from the external ear canal for a few minutes. machine is sufficient to hold the ear.
In the video, it is seen that the patient, whose right external ear canal is obstructed by earwax (cerumen, cerumen), is cleaned by aspirating the ear dirt from the right and left external ear canal. Cleaning the ear by washing (since the eardrum cannot be evaluated due to earwax) is inconvenient in patients with eardrum holes.
Earwax aspiration is performed safely by the ENT specialist and without contact with the eardrum. Earwax can occasionally harden due to regular contact with cotton swabs and napkins, and in this case an earwax softening product such as glycerin may need to be used for one week before dirt cleaning.
