Low back pain is a common cause of doctor visits and is the most common cause of work-related disability. Often sudden movements when lifting heavy objects are the result of injury such as muscle sprains or strains caused by poor body mechanics. Backache; can also be a result of certain diseases such as spinal cancer, ruptured or herniated disc, sciatica, arthritis, kidney or spine infections. Optimal results are obtained when treatment of low back pain is planned for a particular cause that is diagnosed or suspected. Initial home practice may be useful for acute back pain caused by strain on the lumbar region.

What is low back pain?
Low back pain, or lumbago, used in medicine, is a general term used to describe any pain that occurs in the lower back region. It is a common health problem affecting approximately 80% of adults and leading to significant labor loss. Low back pain may be a sharp pain that occurs suddenly or it may be a dull pain.

Causes low back pain?
Functions of the lumbar or lumbar region include structural support, movement and protection of specific body tissues. Back pain may be caused by the bones of the spine, the discs between the vertebrae, the ligaments around the spine, the spinal cord and nerves, the muscles around the waist, the abdominal organs and the skin covering the waist.

What are the causes of low back pain?
The most common causes of low back pain are lower back strain, nerve irritation, problems in nerve roots from the spinal cord, and bone and joint problems.

Waist strain. Waist strain is the injury of the ligaments, tendons or muscles in the region. Stretching of the soft tissues in the region causes microscopic tears of varying degrees in the related structures. Coercion is considered one of the most common causes of low back pain.
Nerve irritation. Nerves from the spine in the lumbar region can be irritated by mechanical pressure anywhere from the roots of the spinal cord to the skin surface. These conditions include disc disease, problems in the bones, and inflammation of the nerves due to shingles infection.
Lumbar radiculopathy. Lumbar radiculopathy is nerve irritation caused by damage to the discs between the lumbar vertebrae. Damage to the disc is caused by wear and tear on the outer ring of the disc, traumatic injury, or both.
Bone pressure. Any condition that results in displacement or expansion of the lumbar vertebrae may limit the space for adjacent spinal cord and nerves.
Bone and joint conditions. Bone and joint conditions leading to low back pain; Congenital defects can be caused by wear, tear, injury and arthritis. The most common congenital causes of low back pain are scoliosis and spina bifida. Scoliosis is the lateral curvature of the spine. Spina bifida is a birth defect characterized by openness in the spine. It affects the top of the bone, commonly referred to as the lumbar spine and sacrum.
Damage to bone and joints. Lumbar vertebrae and sacrum fracture is most commonly seen in elderly people with osteoporosis, especially those taking cortisone medications for a long time. Even very mild physical stress, such as bending over to tie shoelaces, can cause fractures in these people.
Arthritis. Spondyloarthropathies are types of inflammatory arthritis that can affect the waist and hip joints. Spondyloarthropathies include reactive arthritis (Reiter's disease), ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease arthritis.

What good for low back pain?

Low back pain is a common health problem that can significantly affect a person's work and personal life. Fortunately, there are many practices that can be done at home to alleviate back pain.

EXERCISE
It can be difficult to get up and move when you have low back pain. However, a short walk, yoga, swimming or other mild sporting activity can often help relieve low back pain. Exercise relaxes tense muscles and stimulates the release of endorphins, the brain's natural painkillers. People with chronic low back pain may consider starting a regular exercise program that includes strength and stretching exercises to help keep muscles flexible and strong. Regular exercise can prevent recurrence of low back pain from tense and weak muscles.

HOT AND COLD APPLICATION
Studies have shown that the most effective ways to get rid of low back pain are the application of hot and cold. For low back pain due to back strain, it is useful to apply ice to the area immediately after injury. When an ice pack wrapped in a towel is applied to the aching area, acute inflammation due to injury regresses. Cold can also relieve sudden and intense back pain. During the application, ice should be wrapped with a towel or cloth to protect the skin from freezing. It is recommended to apply for a maximum of 20 minutes at a time. The first 48 hours in the acute period of cold, then the application is the best way to apply hot. The temperature should be adjusted well to avoid burning the skin.

TENSION MOVEMENTS
Various stretching movements can help relieve back and back pain. Each stretching application below should be continued for 30 seconds or as long as the person feels comfortable.

Touching the toes: Leaning forward to touch the toes helps reduce tension in the lumbar muscles by stretching the muscles on the back of the thigh called hamstring.
Cobra posture: Supported by the hands while lying in the prone position, the chest and head are raised to see the ceiling.
Child posture: Sit in the kneeling position. The head is laid out on the ground, reaching forward. The arms are extended to the front of your head.
ERGONOMICS
The work area should be ergonomically designed to protect spine health. This means that one does not have to lean forward or sit hunched to see the computer monitor or use the mouse. In addition, a table and chair should be used to support the waist and allow the feet to press firmly on the ground.

LOW HEELS SHOES
You should avoid using high-heeled shoes to maintain spine and waist health. Instead, shoes with heels less than 2.5 centimeters should be preferred. Because high-heeled ones cause a more unstable posture and increase the pressure on the lumbar vertebrae negatively affect the health of the spine.

How does low back pain go?

Various complementary medical treatment methods may be preferred to relieve back pain. Treatments used for this purpose include:

Acupuncture. It is a complementary medicine method based on the principle of energy release by immersing extremely thin and sterilized needles in special points in the body. It can be useful in coping with low back pain.
Spinal manipulation. This is an application made by trained personnel in the field and by applying pressure directly to the body to correct spine alignment.
Massage. Massage can be applied by the physiotherapist to relax the aching muscles.
Movement therapies such as yoga and Tai Chi can help to stretch and strengthen the back muscles.
PRP. Treatment of the platelet-rich blood product from the person's own blood is administered by injecting it into the intended site. Especially in low back pain due to disc disease, effective results can be obtained. PRP injections accelerate the healing of damage to the discs located between the vertebrae.
Prolotherapy injections. Prolotherapy is a complementary medicine method aimed at accelerating cell growth and tissue healing through natural mechanisms of the body by injecting dextrose or a similar irritant agent. It has been used to treat chronic low back pain for more than 50 years. To maximize the effect of injections, prolotherapy is often combined with other methods, such as spinal manipulation, exercise, and corticosteroid injections.
