Undoubtedly, aspirin, which is one of the most commonly used drugs in the society, has great benefits especially in some patient groups. We have strong evidence that aspirin is very useful, especially in patients with obstructive vascular disease (ie heart attack or stroke, blockage of the leg and neck arteries). The use of low-dose aspirin in such patients provides a significant reduction in the risk of re-heart attack or stroke. For this reason, international cardiology societies, including the Turkish Society of Cardiology, recommend the use of aspirin at a dose of 75 mg150 mg daily for secondary prevention.

Secondary protection refers to medications and measures taken to prevent people who have suffered from a number of conditions such as heart attacks or strokes and who are known to have congestion in their blood vessels.
Should the person use aspirin if he or she does not have a heart disease or has a stroke? At this point, the risk factors which are the factors that cause the person to experience such disorders are evaluated. The risk of developing heart disease is calculated with the help of the rulers. If we briefly summarize the risk factors for heart disease; men 45 women over 55 years of age, the presence of family heart disease, smoking, presence of hypertension, blood cholesterol levels, presence of low HDL cholesterol and diabetes can be mentioned. The proposed approach so far is that people with the above risk factors should use aspirin at a dose of 75-1150 mg daily to avoid cardiovascular disease.

Clearly, a recent study raises serious questions about the need for regular aspirin use in people without cardiovascular disease. It is thought that the beneficial effect of aspirin use is not much higher than the risk of bleeding due to aspirin in at least low and medium risk individuals. For example, in men who do not have cardiovascular disease, aspirin is used for an average of 6 years, based on every 1000 people, less serious heart disease occurs in 4 people.

This figure is calculated as 3 per thousand people in women. However, this reduction in rates has a price. It's a risk of bleeding. By using aspirin in similar people, we can see large bleeding in 3 per 1000 men and 2.5 in women. Another striking development is that aspirin has not significantly reduced the incidence of heart attacks, heart attacks, deaths and paralysis in diabetic patients who have so far been considered high-risk and approved for aspirin use.
